The Westrend Group was formed in 1983 as the Western Office of the Naisbitt Group whose research was the basis for the original best selling book Megatrends. In 1984 the company became independent.

The focus of our work is to assist clients adapt to changes that affect their organizations and their future. This work is in three areas: 1) speeches, presentations, seminars and retreats, 2) consulting assignments, and 3) writing books and articles.

Speeches/Seminars/Retreats
We presently do approximately fifty speeches, seminars or retreats a year. My presentations tend to be either keynote addresses at the beginning of a working session, general session speeches, or speeches at the closing session of a conference. In each case, the speeches focus on the theme of the conference or working session, issues that the client has said are important to participants and how those issues can be successfully addressed during a period of significant change.

Consulting Assignments
Each year we work with approximately a dozen consulting clients. The work is usually organized around either strategic planning or issues related to organizational change. We have worked with several clients for over fifteen years and usually work with an additional four to six clients on more specific short term assignments, such as the one you and I are discussing. Over the years clients have included telecommunications companies, manufacturing companies, national associations, banks and real state companies, government agencies and health care systems.

Books
Michael Annison has written two books and is completing a third. The first, Managing the Whirlwind: Patterns and Opportunities in a Changing World won the James Hamilton Award from the American College of Healthcare Executives as book of the year. The second, Trust Matters – New Dimensions in Healthcare Leadership was co-authored with Dan Wilford, the recently retired President of the Memorial Hermann Healthcare System in Houston, Texas and former Chairman of VHA. The forthcoming book – Organizing for Good – describes successful organizations and why we need to move beyond scientific management. It is being written for managers, senior executives and students interested organizations and how they should be managed.
